Mag-Lens-NiNE is an established tool to evaluate and compare the patent portfolio of an organization/ company against the peers/ competitors in a pre-defined technical area. The tool, developed in house (pHNiNE) has been successfully demonstrated for different technical areas of Biofuel, Water, Chemistry and Bio-technology.   

The patent portfolio consisting of applications and granted patents of a company in a defined technical area is ranked based on the certain criteria/ parameters against it's competitors. The relative rankings are dependent on cumulative weightages of parameters. Relative rankings based on the independent parameters are added for a company and thereafter allocated a relative score. The plots are drawn as per the requirements such as number of patent applications or portfolio strength against the relative portfolio maturity etc.  

1. The company/organization could assess their patent portfolio maturity against its competitor and could define the path or plan properly to move ahead in competition in a specific technical area.  
2. Re-asses the IP (patent) strategy for competitors in a technical area and could assess any technology or deviations in IP strategy with time.
3.  A company could identify and track portfolio development of a new player/entity in a technical area. 
4. Could use this as a tool for merger/ acquisition, technology "sell". 

The tool has been successfully introduced and executed since 2009 for multinationals and has been praised by technologists and IP attorneys.
